Settlement of a claim and costs always involves a certain degree of interplay between the various insurers involved: between us – your liability insurer for third-party driver damage – and the motor vehicle liability policy or accidental damage insurance policy of the keeper of the vehicle.
Example: “You drive into a garden fence”
Car repair
AXA pays the following costs:
- With accidental damage insurance: deductible and any loss of bonus under the accidental damage insurance
- No accidental damage insurance: the entire cost of the repair
Garden fence
The costs are apportioned as follows:
- Motor vehicle liability insurance for the borrowed vehicle; repair costs incurred
- AXA: potential loss of bonus under the motor vehicle liability insurance of the keeper of the vehicle
Please note: The deductible from the motor vehicle liability insurance of the keeper of the vehicle is not insured. This must be paid by you or by the keeper of the vehicle themselves.
Exclusions – the costs payable by you/the keeper of the vehicle
The following, for example, are not covered by the insurance:
- Operational damage, engine damage, damage caused by wear and tear or operating errors (e.g. filling the fuel tank with the wrong fuel such as unleaded rather than diesel – optional supplementary insurance)
- Damage to vehicles of persons living in the same household as you (e.g. partner, children)
- Damage to vehicles belonging to the motor trade (e.g. courtesy car provided by your garage)
You'll find specific information about your insurance cover at any time in the General Insurance Conditions (GIC) – the easiest way to do this is in the customer portal myAXA.
